MRS. NELLIE WORKMAN.

January the 26, 1899, Nellie Workman died at her home near Mt. Zion, having been sick only one week, when the death angel called and her spirit took its flight for the other world. She was born in 1876 and in 1890 she united with the Presbyterian church. In 1896 she was married to George Workman of Mt. Zion.

In our midst she has always lived and it needs no pen to tell of her Christian life and character. She was always present in her Sunday school class where she will be missed from her accustomed place. And as we tread softly through the room where Nellie slept we whisper she is gone. Never more will her footsteps fall by the old home door, or her voice be heard by the lone ones left round her own hearthstone to tell that she is here. But as we thus sit and wonder, other thoughts come to us. She has only gone before. Standing at the pearly gateway she is waiting to beckon others o'er the silent river. Such thoughts animate us with new strength and we press onward to our home on high.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Barker, and only 8 days previous to her death she became the mother of a baby boy, but after a week of intense suffering she was taken away from her child, her husband, parents and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Miller chapel, preaching by Rev. C.S. McElhinny, and the interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Among the hymns sung at the church, one was special favorite of Mrs. Workman, the first and last stanza being as follows:

Jesus calls us, o'er the tumult
Of our life's wild, restless sea;
Day by day, His sweet voice soundeth,
Saying, Christian, follow me.

Jesus calls us; by thy mercies,
Savior, may we hear the call;
Give our hearts to they obedience,
Serve and love thee best of all.
