APPLETON, FERRIN, RICE

Mrs. Anne Appleton died at her home in Bentonsport at 9 p.m. of Friday, November 4, 1904, aged almost ninety-two years. There was no particular disease, the organs simply refusing to longer perform their functions.

She was born in Nottingham, England in December of 1812 and came with her parents to Baltimore in 1822. They moved to Philadelphia in 1838 and to Iowa in 1846, locating at Bentonsport in 1847 where she has since lived.

She was of a family of eight children of whom but one, Miss Ferrin of Springfield, Mo., is now living. Mrs. Ferrin is the youngest of the family is eighty years of age and was present at the funeral.

Her husband died in 1865 leaving her a family of four daughters of whom three are now living, one daughter having passed away at the age of nineteen. The three living children are Mrs. Elmira Rice of Farmington, Mass., Mrs. Elizabeth Rice and Miss Cornelia Appelton of Bentonsport.

Mrs. Appleton's life has been most beautiful. Well educated, always informed on the topics of the day, her mind was clear to the last and has never shown symptoms of failing. She was a charter member of the Congregation church of Bentonsport which she joined in 1846.

Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m., Rev. McElhinney officiating. Interment in the Bentonsport cemetery.
