Owen Tuttle.
**Handwritten also: OWEN TUTTLEThe Pajaronian, published at Watsonville, California, contained a half column obituary of the late Owen Tuttle, who was formerly so well and favorably known in this county. Death came instantly early Sunday morning, July 2, from heart weakness. He had experienced severl sharp attacks before.
Owen Tuttle was born in Ohio, Dec. 30, 1827; and was in his 72nd year. When a boy his family moved to Iowa. He came to California in the early days of the gold mining excitement, and worked at Georgetown, Eldorado county, and spent some time in Colusa. He returned to Iowa where he was married to Miss Mary E. Burns, and where all his children were born except the youngest, Victor H.
About 25 years ago he came to Pajora Valley and bought a farm, the management of which he gave over a few years ago and moved to town to occupy his residence on Union street. He was exact, but just in all his dealings. He despised dublicity, and admired frankness. He took an interest in public affairs, but was not an office-seeker. He was a succuessful man as miner, farmer and capitlist, but success came to him because he won it. He was for many years a director in the Bank of Watsonville and of the Watsonville Savings bank, and took an active part in their management. He was also largely interest in the wholesale grocery house of R.L. Craig & Co. of Los Angeles. His property interests, aside from the stocks mentioned, are in Santa Cruz and neighboring counties. He left a wife and five sons and two brothers, Wm. D. Tuttle of this city and George Tuttle of Kansas.
