Zella Newman Dodds

Zella Pearl Newman, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Newman, was born on a farm near Farmington, Iowa, May 11, 1898. When she was four years old the family moved to Farmington, where Zella began and finished her school life, graduating from the High School in 1917. She then taught school for two years and was very successful in that work.

She was united in marriage to Donald K. Dodds July 23, 1919 in Bonaparte, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Dodds lived at the paternal home until the first of March when they moved and began house keeping and farming on the Robert Barker place near Mt. Zion. From here she was called to her eternal rest on the afternoon of May 14, 1920.

Mrs. Dodds was a woman of sweet disposition and winning ways, and had a large circle of friends wherever she was. All of her life until her marriage she was a faithful attendant of the Methodist Sunday School in Farmington.

Her grandfather, Mr. Albert Newman, preceded her to the other world by about ten months. She leaves to hold her in loving remembrance, beside her husband whose fond hopes and bright prospects are blighted by her departure, her father and step mother, her grandmother, Mrs. Alvert Newman of Farmington. Also two sisters, Mrs. Raymond Grimm of Farmington and Miss Florence Newman who lives with her father and stepmother on the farm on the edge of Missouri, and a large number of other relatives and acquaintances.

"And they had planned a future filled with bright, upstanding days that held the warming sun even where shadows are."

Funeral services were held at two o'clock Monday at the Methodist church in Farmington, with Rev. Coppoc in charge, assisted by Rev. Smith, pastor of the church.
