Obituary of Mrs. James Mathias.

Mrs. Melcina E. Mathias was born March 9, 1845, and was married to James C. McCrary in 1870 at Vernon, Iowa. To them were born three daughters, all of whom preceded their father in death. He died about twelve years ago. Mrs. McCrary was married to James Mathias of Farmington, Iowa, Oct. 25, 1909 by Rev. Perkins, at Keosauqua, and came from her home in Vernon to this place where she enjoyed life and health until September, 1918, when she began treatment for cancer of the lip, since which time she was a great sufferer and had to undergo pain from operations, all of which she endured with fortitude and patience, manifesting a true Christian fidelity and endurance in cheerfulness through it all.

In early life she professed faith in Christ and became a member of the Bentonsport Congregational church. When she came to Farmington to live she united by letter with the Congregational church here. She was greatly loved and respected by all her kindred and associates at Vernon and death came to welcome her from further pain at 6 p.m., May 31, 1919, at the age of 74 years, 2 months and 22 days.

She leaves to loneliness and sorrow her husband, James Mathias, also her brother-in-law, Miner McCrary and his wife, along with several nieces and nephews and many kind friends.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational church at 2 p.m., June 2, 1919, Elder McKiernan in charge, assisted by Rev. J.H. Walley. Interment was made in the Green Glade cemetery.
