About 12 o'clock, Tuesday night, Sept. 18, 1917, Mrs. Nettie Israel Hissem, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Israel, early settlers of Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa, died at the Ottumwa hospital. She was born in Harrisburg township, Nov. 28, 1867. Later she moved to Bonaparte, after her father retired from farming, where she lived until she married Mr. J.T. Hissem, of Chequest township, a few years ago. She was a lady universally respected. She had been in declining health for some time previous to her death which followed an operation a short time before a Ottumwa. She is mourned by her husband, two sisters, Mrs. J.C. Frye, of Kansas, Mrs. W.F. Proper, of Bonaparte, also three brothers: J.C. of Missouri, and Geo. of Fairfield, Io. The remains were taken to Bonaparte Thursday, Sept. 20, where funeral services were held in the Baptist church in charge of Rev. Jonathan Lee of Ottumwa and Rev. Peterson, local pastor of that church. Burial was in the Bonaparte cemetery.
