WASHINGTON BROWN.

George Washington Brown was born in Huntington Co., Penn., Feb. 11th, 1813, and died in Keosauqua, Iowa, June 21st, 1905, aged 92 years, 4 months and 10 days. He was the youngest of a family of eleven children, and the last one to be called from the scenes of this life.

At the age of nineteen, or in 1832, he moved near Lancaster, Ohio, where he resided for sixteen years. In 1848, he came to Van Buren county, Iowa, and located near Keosauqua. Since that time he has made this county his home. In 1835 he was united in marraige to Mary Long. To them were born eight children, all of whom have preceded their father in death, except one son S.M. Brown and one daughter, Mrs. J.H. Kennedy.

His companion died eleven years ago, since which time he has made his home with his son S.M. Brown of Keosauqua.

During the civil war he enlisted in Co. C, of the 37th Iowa Infantry, in which capacity he served his country faithfully. Father Brown was a devoted Christian. He was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, at an early age, and always gave his influence and support to the advancement of the Master's kingdom.

For years he has been anxiously awaiting the call of the Master, to the rewards of the life beyond, towards which he looked with joy and expectation. The immediate cause of his death was a stroke of paralysis, which he sustained Sunday morning about 5 o'clock, losing the entire use of his right side, and also his power of speech. The end came peacefully and he fell asleep in the faith in which he lived. The world has been made richer by his life, and Heaven has been made richer by his death.
