JOHN H. EASTER.

Albia Repbublican:

Albia and Monroe county people will grieve to learn of the death of one of its old residents, J.H. Easter. Death came to Mr. Easter Saturday evening, January 24, 1914, after an illness extending over a period of several weeks. While death had not been unexpected for several days before, the ending brought with it a touch of sadness which can never be forgotten. The many friends in this community, among which Mr. Easter was always looked upon as a man of sterling worth, will sympathize deeply with the bereaved family.

John H. Easter was born in Summerfield, Penn., October 12, 1845. He first located in Iowa to Bentonsport, in Van Buren county, and the greater part of his life was spent in that part of the state. While in Bentonsport Mr. Easter was a maker of pottery. In May, 1874, he was united in marriage with Mary Margaret Wood at Bentonsport, and the couple have lived happily together since that time, forty years next May. Three boys were the result of the union, Clem, Hugh and Smith. The former two were called to the better world several years ago. One child, Helen, a daughter of Clem Easter, also is left without the happy association of a loving grandfather.

Five brothers and two sisters are left to mourn the demise of an affectionate brother. In 1893 the Easter family removed from Bentonsport to Albia, and this has been their home since that time. Mr. Easter's activities in this community have brought many friends and close associates. Since his residence here he has been made a director in the Peoples National bank, and has also been prominent in anything which went for the good of the city and the county. In religious life, Mr. Easter was a leader. He had been an elder in the First Presbyterian church, and his efforts for good have always been recognized with high regard. His interest in Astor Lodge, No. 505 A.F. and A.M, has been great throughout his membership in that order.

Funeral services were held from the First Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. W.E. Fisher conducted the last ceremony and the body was laid to rest after so many years of honorable and industriou8s activity.
