Death Of Wesley Shepherd
Saturday evening, Sept. 23, 1916, John Wesley Shepherd died at his home in Warsaw, Ill., following a stroke of paralysis which came upon him the day previous. His health had been poor for several months, but he kept at work until the stroke came upon him at the time named. His age would have been 69 this coming Novemeber. All his early life was spent in Van Buren county, his birthplace. During his young boyhood days he lived at Utica with his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Shepherd where he attended school. Near the close of the Civil War they moved to Bentonsport where "Wes" continued __ school until a young man.
About 1870 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Sheppard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Sheppard of Keosauqua, who resided in the home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Wilk Roberts. While the name of the bride and groom is pronounced the same, nor were they relatives. The spelling of the groom's name is Shepard and the bride's maiden name is Sheppard.
Following their marriage they moved to Warsaw which was ever afterwards their home. For many years Wes was traveling salesman. He was a good man and was held in high esteem by everybody who knew him. He is survived by his wife, also two sons, one living in Warsaw and one in St. Louis. Two sisters, Mrs. Mark Sheppard and Mrs. Minnie Hill, both of Silvis, Ill. James Sheppard of Ottumwa is a brother-in-law of the deceased. The funeral was held from the home in Warsaw Tuesday p.m. of this week, burial being in the Warsaw cemetery.
