Mrs. George Syfert.
Eliza Jane Smith was born Dec. 23, 1852 near Hillsboro, Iowa, and died Aug. 6, 1916, at Bonaparte, Iowa. She was the sixth child of Rufus and Emily Smith of Pittsburg, Iowa.
She was united in marriage March 12, 1878 to George F. Syfert, who then resided near Mt. Zion, Iowa. After awhile they deemed it necessary to move to move to Bonaparte, Iowa.
To this union four children were born, Mrs. John Carter of Pierceville, Ia; Mrs. H.C. Bennett of Lacon, Ill.; Mrs. R.C. Stone of Farmington, Iowa; and Miss Maud, who still resides at home and ministered to her mother with much patience and loving devotion.
She joined the M.E. church when only 18 years of age, and until her death manifested great faith in Jesus Christ, her Lor and Saviour. Up to the last she was radiant with the hope of immortality and now she rests in peace with God.
She leaves to mourn their loss her husband and four children, eight grand-children, one sister, Mrs. Sadie Pitcer of Memphis, Mo., and a host of relatives and friends who tried to cheer her by rendering the minstery of christian hope and love.
