Two years later he returned home, but not satisfied with Iowa he returned to the west, settling in Belgrade, Montana, which place was his home until his demise, which occurred July 17, 1916.

During his last illness his father was at his bedside for a period of nine weeks. Although his suffering was almost unbearable, he was always patient Olie, as he was better known, was always jovial and cheerful, with a kind word for all. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances. Old and young knew him by his cheerful disposition.

He leaves to mourn his death his father, two brothers, Marion F. and Clarence H., a niece, two nephews and a host of relatives and friends. The body was brought back to the county of his birth and funeral services were held at the parental home near Bonaparte, Iowa, July 21, 1916, conducted by Rev. P.H. Hawk, pastor of the Farmington M.E. church. Burial was in the Thompson cemetery.
