Mary Bringham was born November 5, 1827, in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. She was married to John D. Mitchler on September 12, 1844, in Van Buren County, Iowa. Six children were born to them, of whom only two are living – Anna, wife of G. H. Damron, of Basco, Illinois, and Samuel, of Bonaparte. Mr. Mitchler’s death occurred in October, 1898. Mrs. Mitchler had been a constant sufferer for nearly three years, but bore her affliction with remarkable patience. She became a Christian in early life, and was a member of the Bonaparte Presbyterian church from its organization. She was a faithful worker in the church; and, as long as her health permitted, was always to be found in her place. Of her let it be said as of one of old, “She hath done what she could."

The funeral services occurred from her late home Friday morning, August 17, 1900, conducted by her pastor, Rev. George Duty.
