Maria Wilhelmina Wire Finekohl 1806-1900

At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jas. Murphy, of this place, on Sunday, July 8, 1900, Mrs. Maria Wilhelmina Finekohl, aged 94 years, 11 days. Her maiden name was Stephenson. She was born in Eberschentz, Hessen Kasel, Germany, June 27, 1806. She was married to Ludowick Wire, in Germany, October, 1824. She came to America in 1832, settling first in Baltimore, Maryland and in 1844 came to Iowa, settling in Farmington township, where they made their home during the remainder of their lives. Twelve children were born to them, 6 sons and 6 daughters. Her husband died in 1849. In 1853 she was married to Henry Finekohl, and in 1863 she was left a widow for the second time. She has made her home for some time with her son, Fred Wire.
Three sons and two daughters have departed this life. For more than a half century she was a member of the German M. E. Church and lived a faithful Christian life, beloved by all.

She leaves to mourn for her, three sons, four daughters, fourty-five grand children and sixty-five great-grand-children.

The funeral took place from the German Methodist Episcopal church west of Farmington on Tuesday, July 10, 1900, Rev. G. W. Barber, of Farmington, conducting the services.
