Death of George Long.
July 10, 1914, George Long died at his home in Keosauqua, Iowa, following a lingering decline in health extending over several years. His age was 70 years, 2 months and 24 days. He was born April 17, 1844, in Lebanon county, Pennsylvania. When 3 years of old he came to Iowa with his parents and in 1852 located on Vernon Prairie, Van Buren county. September 25, 1866, he married Miss Margary Hunter of Keosauqua. In 1868 he united with the Methodist church and remained a member of same until called by the Master. During the early part of the War of the Rebellion he enlisted in Company G, Third Iowa Cavalry, and served with that regiment until it was mustered out. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Long, three of whom survive, viz. Mary DeHart of California, Mrs. Flora Brownlee of Keosauqua and William H. of Chicago. His wife survives and helped to care for him until the end. He was a patient sufferer and the bereaved wife and children are left to mourn for an indulgent husband and kind father. Mr. Long was a respected citizen and he will be greatly missed in Keosauqua where he lived for many years. The funeral was held Sunday from the residence at 2:30 in the afternoon, Rev. Behrens of the M.C. church in charge of the services. The burial was in the Purdom cemetery.
