Isaac Mendenhall

Isaac Mendenhall was born in Hawkins county, Tenn., May 25, 1815, and died at Bonaparte, July 4, 1901, aged 86 years, 1 month and 9 days. He was married to Elizabeth Atkinson, July 3, 1834. To this union were born ten children, of whom three boys and five girls are left to mourn the loss of father. His wife died August 11, 1889 at the age of 75 years, He left Tennessee in the early part of his married life, for Illinois where he lived until 1850, when he removed to Lee county, Iowa, and from there to Van Buren county, where he has resided until his death, his home being for many years at Pierceville. Isaac Mendenhall enlisted in Company C, 37th Regiment of Iowa Infantry in Oct., 1862, to serve three years or during the war. He was promoted to sergeant of his company and was honorably discharged from the service of his country May 25, 1865, at Davenport, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, with whom he lived, July 6th, conducted by Rev. J.L. Ayrault. The body was interred at Bentonsport, the G.A.R. having charge of services there.
