Curtis W. Hanan was born July 21, 1873. In Van Buren county, Iowa, and died at his home in Vernon township, same county, April 20, 1901, age 27 years, 8 months and 29 days. He was married to Miss Ione Lorton, February 7, 1897, who with one child, a little boy, survives. A little girl that was born to them died in infancy. A sister is also left with the other relatives to mourn his death. In 1898 he united with the M.E. church and lived afterwards a devoted Christian life. He was a man of high respectability and strict integrity. Last June he served the government as census enumerator of Vernon township and at that time had strong hopes that his life would be spared to his wife and child for several years, but consumption had fastened its hold upon him and in less than a year completed its fatal work. The funeral was held last Sunday forenoon at the Centre Chapel, a very large concourse of people attending, the sermon being by Rev. Jeffrey of Keosauqua, after which the remains were buried in the church cemetery. Much sympathy goes out for the wife and child in their sad bereavement.
