Philip Eich was born in Harrisburg township near Bonaparte, Iowa, February 10, 1859, and died at his home in Omaha, Neb., April 3, 1910, having lived 51 years, 1 month, and 23 days. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Eich, are still living in Bonaparte, and to them and to the wife and family the sympathy of Bonaparte friends is extended in this their great bereavement.
For many years he was in the hardware and implement business in Bonaparte, and during Cleveland's administration from 1893 to 1897 he was postmaster here. As a business man and salesman he was cordial, yet keen and decisive without being offensive.
He grew to manhood in and near Bonaparte and was married to Miss Annie Van Dorn May 30, 1883.
He united with the Presbyterian church here several years ago and from this church had never withdrawn his letter. He took an active part in the erection of the present beautiful church building, being one of the three in charge of the same.
After disposing of his hardware business here he became traveling representative for buggy and implement houses; moved from here to Des Moines and was in the employ of the Racine-Sattley Co., and from Des Moines to Minneapolis, Minn., for same company. For several months they lived in Stockton, California, returning from there to Omaha, Neb., where for almost a year he has been in the employ of the Deere Co., two representatives of which accompanied the remains to Bonaparte for interment.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 6, in Bonaparte, Rev. Geo. H. Duty of Oxford officiating, being assisted by the pastor, Rev. H.J. Taylor.
The Masons and Knights Templar were in charge of the services at the grave. Several members of that order from Keosauqua attended.
