Postmaster John W. Burns died at his home in Keosauqua, on Easter Sunday of 1909, of pnuemonia. He had been seriously ill several days and had been failing in health for months and was considering resigning his position.
Mr. Burns lived for many years on a farm south of Bonaparte, going from there to Keosauqua when elected to the county treasurer's office. An obituary sketch will be published in next issue.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Charles, residing at Mason City, Iowa; one son, Owen, residing at St. Paul; one daughter, Mary, in Los Angeles, California; and Dora the eldest in Keosauqua; One brother, M___s resding Denver; sister, Mrs. Tuttle, residing at Watsonville, California, and numerous relatives and friends. he was about 67 years of age, present Post Master at Keosauqua, serving his first term; he was Treasurer of Van Buren County for four years; a member of Co. G 3rd Iowa Cavalry, and served through the War of the Rebellion. Funeral services are not yet decided.
