ROBINSON, BRADFORD, MATTHEWS

James Robinson was born in Barber county, Va., Aug. 2nd, 1826, and died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Burnetta Bradford, near Bonaparte, Iowa, Nov. 9th, 1908, aged 82 years, 3 months and 7 days. He was united in marriage with Martha Matthews, Sept. 27, 1848, who for fifty four years stood by his side until death called her to her reward Dec. 3rd, 1902.

To this union were born eight children, all of whom have departed this life, except Waitman Robinson and Mrs. Burnetta Bradford. Besides these there are left to mourn eighteen grand children and twenty-four great-grand children.

Mr. Robinson, with his family, came to Iowa in 1863 and resided in this community since then with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas. He served in the Second Illinois Infantry during the Mexican war. He also served in the Eleventh West Virginia Infantry in the war of the rebellion. Mr. Robinson was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was a devoted christian until he entered his eternal rest.

Funeral services were conducted at the Vernon M.E. church, Wednesday Nov. 11, 1908, by the Rev. George Blagg, after which the remains were laid beside those of his deceased companion in the Vernon cemetery.
