Elmer H. 'Brownie' Burch

Elmer H. "Brownie" Burch, 86, 305 S. Court St., died at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 1991, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A graveside service with Masonic rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham with the Rev. Sara Malone officiating. Family visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham. Memorials may be made to charity of donor's choice.

Burch was born Dec. 6, 1904, in Arnold, Neb., the son of William M. and Anna Burch. He grew up in Nebraska and Iowa, graduated from high school in Nebraska and from Fort Madison Business College in Fort Madison. He worked in construction for Van Buren County. He served in the Fairfield Police Department before joining the Navy and serving with the Sea Bees of the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He worked in security for Lockheed Corporation in California until retiring in 1968. He moved to Fairfield in 1972. He was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge and Clinton Lodge 15, Masonic Lodge. He married Anna Cochrell in 1934. She died in 1972. On Dec. 9, 1972, he married Refa M. Gaines at Memphis, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two stepsons, Richard Reddick of Cedar Rapids, Ivan Reddick in California; several nieces and nephews. Five brothers and six sisters preceded him in death.
