RUBY E. SCHMIDT.

Miss Ruby E. the eldest child of Wm. F. Schmidt and wife was born in Bonaparte, Feb. 11, 1891, and died April 12, 1905, in the house of her birth never having lived in another. She lived just 14 years, 2 months and one day.

She was sick about two weeks with rheumatic fever and heart complications, resulting in death. She seems to have had premonitions of death, having while yet in attendance at school selected the hymns beginning “Somewhere the Sun is Shining, We will meet at the Portal, Sometime We’ll understand and Have faith in God” to be sung at her funeral. She also selected as pall bearers her class mates the Misses Clara Brown, Grace Woods, Rosa Hamlin, June Henry, Grace Meredith, Monte Ryland and Linna Noske, and designated the Methodist church as the place with the Methodist minister to officiate her funeral. Thus before she was taken sick and all through her sickness she seemed to have resigned herself to death.

On the night of April 7th her aunt Rosa being in attendance testifies to her being conscious and praying audibly repeating several times “Oh Lord, take me home. Oh hurry up”, then saying to her aunt she had seen children with whom she had been acquainted before their death in Heaven.

On the afternoon of March 5th last she was at our revival services in the Methodist church and when the after call was made came forward and found Jesus in the forgiveness of her sins. Within a few days afterward an interested party called at her home and talked with her about her religious experience, when she expressed herself as being glad she had made the start. During her sickness she showed great appreciation of the pains taking care and anxiety for her in administering to her every want, expressing herself as fearing they would wear themselves out in caring for her.

She belonged to the A grade in the grammar room of the public schools and spoke kindly of her teacher, school mates in appreciation of their friendship for her.

Besides her parents and a brother nine years of age she leaves to mourn her the grandparents (on her father’s side) Christian Schmidt and wife, four uncles and three aunts by kin, two uncles and two aunts by marriage. On her mother's side one uncle.

The funeral services were held at the M.E. church on Friday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Wehn.

The factory, in which the father, Wm. Schmidt, is employed, ceased work while the procession was passing as a tribute to the dead and the living.

The grammar room of the school was closed on the afternoon of the funeral and the scholars attended in a body.

The floral tributes were most beautiful and were conducted by her friends in life.
