John Brickey rites Tuesday

OTTUMWA - John Robert Brickey, 37, Route 1, Ottumwa, died at 5:40 p.m. Saturday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ottumwa with the Rev. Wayne Gjerde officiating. Burial will be in Wolfe Cemetery eight miles southeast of Keosauqua. Visitation is open at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa. The casket will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday and closed at the start of the service. Memorials have been established to Brickey's church and to the brain tumor research center at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Brickey was born Oct. 13, 1949 in Fairfield, the son of Raymond and Katherine Harris Brickey. he moved from Birmingham to Ottumwa in 1985. For the last nine years he taught at Hedrick High School. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. On June 5, 1970, he married Judith McIntosh, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Jason, and a daughter, Jessica, both at home; his mother of Fairfield; a sister, Jane Brickey, Des Moines, and a brother, Bill, Mount Pleasant. His father preceded him in death.
