Samuel L. Stanard was born in Newport, New Hampshire, June 13, 1824, and died at Sugar City, Colorado, Jan. 16, 1903, aged 78 years 7 months and 3 days. He came to Van Buren county with his parents in 1838 and lived at Rochester for several years; later he settled in Chequest township where he lived for years, until he moved to Colorado in 18898. He was married to Mrs. Priecilla Walls Frazee over 50 years ago. He was the father of six children, only three of whom survive him. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. since 1850. He walked through life honored and respected by all who knew him.
