Thomas Anson died Sunday March 20, 1904, at his home on the right bank of the Des Moines river and about three miles be??? Keosauqua, aged 77 years, ?? months and 26 days. He was never married. He was born July 24, 1826 in Pike county, Mo. He moved with his parents to the farm near Keosauqua, Iowa, on December, 1836, where he ever afterwards lived and where he died. In 1850 he went to California, making the trip with an ox team and wagon and followed mining gold there until 1853 when he returned by water, coming by New York City. He was the last of that family of the Anson early settlers. He kept close to his farm and when he came to town it was only to attend to needed business. He was strictly honest, a kind hearted man and a generous neighbor and was highly respected by all who knew him. He had been in failing health for some time but an attack of grippe, which took the form of lung fever, was the immediate cause of his death. The funeral was held Tuesday at Center Chapel and the burial was in the cemetery there, Rev. Carson of Keosauqua in charge of the services.
