COFFMAN, Mrs. Eliza (BROWN): 1821-1902

Eliza Brown was born in Shelby county, Ohio, Oct. 9, 1821, and died in Ottumwa, June 13, 1902, aged 80 years, 8 months and 4 days. At the age of 12 she moved with her parents to Fountain county, Indiana. On May 31, 1840, she was married to W.H. Coffman and moved with him to Washington Co., Io, shortly after their marriage. From there they moved to Vernon, Van Buren county. In 1873 Mr. Coffman died and his remains were interred in Vernon. In 1892 Mrs. Coffman left Vernon. She spent the last 10 years of her life with her children in Ottumwa, Iowa, and Wichita, Kansas. Mrs. Coffman was the mother of 11 children, 7 of whom preceded her in death, four surviving and were present at her funeral. Mrs. Coffman was a member of the Protestant Methodist church. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Collier in the M.E. church at Vernon, at 11 a.m, June 15, and her remains were laid to rest in the Vernon cemetery, where sleep her husband, 3 sisters, 1 brother, 2 daughters and several granddaughters.
