Years and Nineteen Days.
OBITUARY SKETCHThomas Duncan Bennett was born January 13, 1836, near Blandinsville, McDonough Co., Ill. He was the second son in a family of twelve children. His parents, Isaac and Mary Bennett, emigrated to Illinois from Tennessee in the early thirties.
July 7, 1854, Mr. Bennett was united in marriage with Miss Phebe O'Conner, also of Blandinsville. To this union were born ten children of whom only three survived infancy. The eldest, Lemuel L., born May 24, 1856, died near Vernon, Iowa, February 9, 1897. Mary E., born November 28, 1858, died near Colchester, Ill., August 28, 1880. William L., born November 29, 1874, is the only surviving child.
Mr. Bennett and family resided in McDonough Co., Ill., until October of 1898, when they moved to Urbana, Ill., and in June, 1900, they came to a farm near Vernon, Van Buren Co., Iowa, where he resided until his death, February 1, 1903. He was 67 years and 19 days old.
Mr. Bennett leaves his wife and son, also five grandchildren who live with their mother, Mrs. L. C. Bennett, near Vernon. Also two brothers in Illinois, one in Texas, and a sister in St. Louis.
The deceased was a loving husband, father and grandfather, sincerely mourned by many sorrowing friends who remember with gratitude the kindness and generosity shown them in time of need. Although a member of no church Mr. Bennett was a believer in and a lover of his Lord Jesus Christ.
The funeral was conducted at the home February 3, with services at Center Chapel at 2:30 P. M. conducted by Rev. J. L. Ayrault, and interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
