Mrs. Luphana Brown, one of the first settlers in this part of Iowa, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Price, in Lebanon, Kansas, Sunday, January 25, 1903.

Mrs. Brown was born in the State of New York, March 4, 1814. Her husband, Alfonso Brown, preceeded [sic] her to the better world in 1855.

Mr. and Mrs. Brown were the parents of a large family, but only four children survive them: G. W. Brown of Bonaparte, R. A. G. Brown of Monmouth, Ill., Mrs. Charlotte Crandal and Mrs. Emma Price. She has one brother living, Minor Easling Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. Brown moved from Quincy, Ill., about 1836, and built a home on Lexington creek near Bonaparte. This estimable couple were known for miles around and although Mrs. Brown has lived in Kansas for twenty years, there are very many here who love and honor her memory.

Mrs. Brown had lived to be 88 years 10 months and 21 days old.
