Death of Dr. J. C. Wells

John Cary Wells was born at Bethany, Virginia, July 1st, 1828, and died at his home in Birmingham, Iowa, March 6th, 1915, aged 86 years, 8 months and 5 days.

He emigrated to McConnelsville, Ohio, where he grew to manhood, and was engaged in the drug business until 1849, when he moved to Jacksonville, Ill., where he studied medicine and was first married.

In 1857 he came to Winchester, Iowa, where he practiced medicine until 1868.

His first wife having died, he was again united in marriage and settled on a farm one mile south of Birmingham, where he resided some years, until he moved to Birmingham, where he resided until his death which occurred at his home in the south part of town, Friday night, after an illness of more than a year with dropsy and heart trouble.

He was the last surviving member of a family of seven, his wife and two sons and two daughters preceded him in death. He leaves one son Rolla, who during his entire illness, gave him every attention possible, and proved himself a dutiful _______?_______ Sunday ______?______ of a large ______?_______ and his remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the Birmingham cemetery.

Dr. Wells was a good citizen, a kind neighbor, and an indulgent husband and father, and will be sadly missed in the community.
