Mortuary.

Mrs. Elizabeth Woods died at her home near Bentonsport, Iowa, Tuesday May 14, 1901, aged 88 years, 1 month and 1 day.

The funeral took place from the home on Friday, May 17, 1901, Rev. G. W. Barber, of Drakesville, Iowa, conducting the service.

[Elizabeth Meek was born in Wayne County, Ohio April 8, 1813. She was the daughter of William Meek, Sr., and Elizabeth meek, and is the last of nine children to depart this life.

When she was 16? years of age she moved with her father's family to St. Joseph county, Michigan, where she was married to Alexander H. Woods in 1834. In 1837 they came to Wisconsin Territory and settled on the place where she ever afterwards made her home, now in Harrisburg township, Van Buren, county, Iowa.

To this union eleven children were born, two of whom died in infancy. The others attained their majority and are all living but two, Mrs. Nancy A. Johnson, who died in 1872, and Miss Mary V. Woods, who died in 1883. She leaves to mourn their loss two sons, five daughters, thrifty-two grand-children and six great-grand-children.]

We who enjoy the advantages of present day civilization owe much to the pioneers who endured the sufferings and exposures of the early settlers of this community, of whom the subject of this sketch was one. She was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a kind and obliging neighbor.

After many years full of usefulness and activity she has departed this life to rest from her labors.
