BIRMINGHAM – Verne O. Bagby, 87, former Birmingham resident, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Home in Keosauqua.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Birmingham Methodist Church with the Rev. Duane Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham. Family visitation will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham. Memorials have been established to Bagby’s church and Birmingham First Responders.
Bagby was born Nov. 8, 1898 near Cantril, the son of James Owen and Mary Warning Bagby. He was reared and educated in the Cantril and Stockport communities and farmed near Stockport until 1974 when he moved to Birmingham. He married Faye Filson Feb. 26, 1948 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. She died February 16, 1986. He was a member of the Birmingham Methodist Church and the Eagles Club.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Mildred Overland, Nola Harlan, both of Stockport; a stepson, Sheldon Headley of Kewanee, Ill; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chester of Stockport, Frank Sr. of Fairfield and a sister Zella Keller of Fairfield. Four brothers preceded him in death.
