Obituary of Josiah Sadler
Josiah Sadler was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, September 30, 1841, and died at his home in Douds, Iowa, September 16, 1918, aged 76 years, 11 months and 16 days.
He was married to Margaret Nedrow, March 2, 1864. To this union three children were born: Simon Grant, George Edward and Ira Allen. The two oldest sons have preceded him in death. The remaining son, Ira Allen, of Warsaw, Mo., was present and had been with the father during his last illness.
He was a veteran of the Civil war, and on September 2, 1861, at the age of 20 years, enlisted in Company H, Third Iowa Calvary, and served three years, after which he re-enlisted and served to the close of the war, and was honorably discharged August 9, 1865, at Atlanta, Ga.
Of the five brothers who served in the war of 1861, two were lost on the field of battle, and now but one remains, Simon of McCune, Kas.[sic]
Josiah came to Iowa with his parents at an early day and spent most of his life in this community. He was a firm believer of the Adventist faith and in 1898 was baptized and received into the church by Elder Eugene Farnsworth.
He was also a member of T. J. Nutt Post, No. 301, G. A. R. Department of Iowa, at Douds, and at the time of his death was Commander of the area.
He leaves, besides his devoted wife and only son, a host of relatives and friends to mourn his departure.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, the 18th, at the Zion Lutheran church, conducted by Elder W. K. Smith of Burlington, and the remains interred in the cemetery adjoining the church.
