Mrs. Gladys LaVerne Crist, daughter of Willliam and Minnie Plowman Hoskin, was born April 17, 1915, near Douds, and departed this life Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1969, at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 54. Her entire life was spent in the Douds community, and she was a graduate of Douds High School.

She was married to Kenneth Dick, who passed away in 1939.

In 1940, she was married to Robert Crist, who remains to mourn her passing. Also surviving are three sons, Richard Dick of Ft. Madison, james Dick of Douds, and Robert W. Crist at home; a daughter, Linda Crist, who is a student at Drake University in Des Moines; four grandchildren, Ronnie, Kenny, Douglas and Darla Dick; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Ratcliff of Douds; other relatives and many friends. A granddaughter, Debbie Sue Dick, preceded her in death.

LaVerne was a member of Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of the Eastern Star at Douds.

She will be remembered as a faithful and devoted wife and mother, true to her ideals and obligations in spite of adversity.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 4 at 2 P.M. at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the pastor, the Rev. Willis Grant, officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Keith A. Smith and Mrs. Robert Pedrick. Mrs. Garold Hughes was the organist. Pall bearers were Jack Boyer, Frank Caves, Robert Witt, Kenneth Gilchrist, Ralph Caves, and Kenneth Knecht. Interment was in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
