Mrs. Bessie June Chader, daughter of Daniel and Nettie Kerr Plowman, was born June 30, 1907, at Douds and departed this life Monday, Sept. 15, 1969, at the Ottumwa Hospital at the age of 62. Except for brief periods her life was spent in the Douds community.

She was graduated from Douds High School and Iowa Wesleyan College at Mt. Pleasant.

In 1935 she was married to Earl L. Chader. Remaining to mourn her passing are her devoted and faithful husband, their daughter, Ila Laughlin and grandson Jeffrey Dan of Fairfield, her sister, Mrs. Ethel Schoeni of Douds, other relatives and many friends.

Bessie was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church and served for many years on its official board, and was a member of Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of the Eastern Star.

She was a cashier of the Farmers & Traders Savings Bank of Douds for the past 37 years.

She will be remembered as a unique person who was able to combine devotion to her home and family with outstanding business acumen, as she capably guided the affairs of her home and those of the bank over a long period of time. Her contributions to the welfare of her family, her church and other community affairs will live on as a fitting memorial to a life well lived.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1969, at 2 P.M. at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Pastor, the Rev. David Pease, former pastor, officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Keith Smith and Mrs. Robert Pedrick, Mrs. John Robinson was the organist. Pall bearers were Forrest Hanshaw, Cyrus Greenfield, Marvin Roush, Davis Pollock, Morris Finney and Ray Gates. Interment was in the Leando Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
