**Handwritten above heading: 11 Dec 1969J.F. Countryman, 76, Batavia farmer, died Thursday, Dec. 4 at 9:25 P.M. at the Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield. He had been ill for the past five months.
Mr. Countryman was born Jan. 13, 1893, in Van Buren County, the son of Noah and Clarinda Stephens Countryman. He farmed near Batavia for 43 years.
He was married to Verva Wellman Dec. 22, 1915. Surviving are his widow; one son, William H. Countryman, Albuquerque, N.M.; and three grandchildren; also a brother, Clyde Countryman, Birmingham, and a sister, Mrs. Weltha Whitten, Denver, Colo.
He was a member of the Batavia United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Batavia Methodist Church in charge of the Rev. John Nye. Burial was in the Batavia Cemetery.
