Wendell Hoenshel

Last rites for Wendell Hoenshel, 79, were held Thursday, Nov. 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Burch Funeral Home, Birmingham.

Hoenshel, a long-time resident of Birmingham, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 13 at Van Buren Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua following a lengthy illness.

Services were conducted by the Rev. David Kennedy. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Hoenshel was born Oct. 9, 1894, in Kansas, the son of Eli and Abby Moss Hoenshel. He was married Oct. 27, 1916 to Ada Bele Harness. She preceded him in death Aug. 22, 1963.

Surviving are two sons, Jack Hoenshel of Centerville, and Jerry Hoenshel of Odebolt; one daughter, Mrs. Martha Lee Williams of Des Moines. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. One son is deceased.

Hoenshel was a lifelong dealer in native lumber. He served on the Birmingham town council and board of education for a number of years.
