Guy E. Hanshaw, 79, of Keosauqua died at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8 at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack at his home early that morning.
He was born July 24, 1893 in Davis County, the son of Thomas and Della Dotson Hanshaw. He married Hazel Vandever April 28, 1928 in Fairfield. He farmed near Selma for several years and moved to Keosauqua in 1950 where he owned and operated the Brass Rail for 6 1/2 years. He was a 48-year member of the Eldon American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Winters of Ottumwa and Mrs. Cleo Dulin of Selma; two brothers, Wilbur of Burlington and Glenn of San Diego, several nieces and nephews. One sister, Georgia Darnell, preceded him in death in 1971.
The funeral was held at the Catcott Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the Rev. Millard Marshall in charge. Military graveside rites were conducted at the Eldon cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for Van Buren County Memorial Hospital.
