Last Rites Held In Birmingham For Mrs. M.W. Nelson

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs. M.W. Nelson, 85, of Birmingham who passed away at the Jefferson county hospital Saturday. The Rev. H.C. Irvine of the Presbyterian church in Birmingham officiated at the services held at the Catcott funeral home.

Mrs. Nelson was a life long resident of Birmingham and ws the former Anna Eliza Anderson. She was united in marriage to Meldon W. Nelson December 16, 1885, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her seven children, George I., Ben, Sylvester and Anetta Nelson of Birmingham; Beatrice Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif.; Allen B. Nelson and Mrs. Avin Edwards of Fairfield. Grandchildren Edward Nelson, Omaha, Nebraska; Clifford Nelson of Ames; Rex, Robert and Joyce Ann Nelson of Fairfield; Darlene and Beverly Edwards of Fairfield and Mrs. George Volmert of Kirksville, Mo., and three great grandchildren Karen Volmert of Kirksville and Nancy Kay and Sandra Sue Nelson of Fairfield.

Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery.

MRS. MELDON W. NELSON

Anna Eliza Anderson, youngest daughter of John and Elizabeth Anderson, was born in Van Buren county near Birmingham, Iowa, Sept. 11, 1862, and passed away Dec. 6, 1947, at the Jefferson county hospital at Fairfield, Iowa, at the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 25 days.

She was united in marriage to Meldon W. Nelson Dec. 16, 1885. To this union were born ten children, seven of who survive. She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away Dec. 28, 1943, and three children, George I., Ben W., Sylvester W. and Annetta of Brimingha, Beatrice of Los Angeles, Calif., Allen B. and Mrs. Elvin Edwards of Fairfield. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Samantha Bonnett of Birmingham.
