George Irwin Nelson, the eldest son of Meldon W. and Anna Anderson Nelson, was born Feb. 22, 1887, at Birmingham, Iowa, and passed away at the Jefferson county hospital Feb. 27, 1948, at 10 p.m. following four days of critical illness at the age of 61 years and 5 days.

He was married Oct. 5, 1915 to Grace L. McMillen, of Birmingham, Iowa, and to this union were born two children, Edward George of Ft. Madison, Iowa, and John Clifford of Chicago, Ill., who, with his wife survive him. He is also survived by three brothers, Ben W. and Sylvester of Birmingham, Allen B. of Fairfield, Iowa, and three sisters, Beatrice of Los Angeles, Calif., Annetta of Birmingham and Mrs. Elvin Edwards of Fairfield.

His entire life was spent on farms near Birmingham, moving to the present homestead in Feb., 1919. He was a faithful member of the Birmingham Presbyterian church. He also served on the township board of trustees and the Girard board of education for a number of years.

His friends were numbered by his acquaintances and he will be missed, not only by his family but by the entire community.
