Marie C. Laughlin

Marie C. Laughlin, 84, of Douds died at 2:50 A.M. Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. She was born Aug. 28, 1914 at Prairie City to Cornelius "Neal" and Maggie Leydens Huisman. She married John R. Laughlin. He died June 14, 1969. She attended Franklin rural school near Birmingham and lived most of her life in the Douds community. She was a farm homemaker, worked at Douds Locker, was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Douds and was active in Oak Grove Ladies Aid and Douds Field Day.

Surviving are two sons, William Gire and his wife, Louise of St. Charles, MO and Robert Gire and his wife, Sandra of Douds, ten grandchildren, several great grandchildren and a sister, Cora Gates of Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Stanley "Bud" Gire, a brother, Aaron "Dutch" Huisman and two great grandsons.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, Rev. Connie Markle officiating. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds. Memorials to Douds Community Club may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 173, Douds 52551.
