94-Year-Old Woman Dies; Suffered Fall

Mrs. Rebecca Carl Succumbs Tuesday

Mrs. Rebecca A. Carl, 94, died Tuesday at 4:40 p.m. after 11 days in Ottumwa hospital, where she was taken for treatment of an ankle fracture sustained when she fell on the steps of her home, 219 North Ransom street.

Mrs. Carl, who had lived in Ottumwa for the last 21 years, was admitted to the hospital December 28, 1940.

She was the daughter of Reuben and Sophia Stansberry and was born in Indiana July 14, 1846. She was the widow of Lemuel Carl and a member of the Willard Street Methodist church.

Surviving are four children, C. L. Carl of Des Moines, G. H. Carl of Birmingham, Mrs. Emma Stump of Ottumwa and E. C. Carl of Agency; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Fletcher Stansberry of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by a son.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the home, 214 North Ransom street, and at Mt. Moriah church, two and one-half miles north of Douds, at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Claude R. Cook, Willard Street Methodist pastor. Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
