Dr. Reed Of Agency Summoned By Death

Eldon---Dr. C. S. Reed, 70, died at his home in Agency at 5:40 p.m. Friday after being in failing health the last two years and critically ill the last two weeks.

He had been a physician in Agency for 37 years. He was a member of the Agency Methodist church ever since his location in Agency, a member of Olive Branch lodge No. 21, A. F. & A. M., Agency, a member of the Wapello County Medical association and past president of that organization. He was a member of the Iowa State Medical society.

He was married to Miss Helen M. Beall December 25, 1906. He is survived by his wife; one son, John R. Reed of Washington, D. C.; two daughters, Mrs. Matthew G. Carr of Ottumwa and Miss Edith A. Reed at home; a sister, Miss Edith M. Reed of Algona, and two grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Agency Methodist church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in charge of the Rev. M. D. Cox, former Agency pastor, assisted by the Rev. M. D. Wyatt. Masonic services will be conducted at the grave. The body to be taken to the
Reed home in Agency from the Campbell funeral home at Eldon at 4:30 today. Burial will be in the Agency cemetery.

Dr. Reed was injured October 22, 1922, when a locomotive backed into his auto at a crossing in Agency. He recovered from the injury and resumed practice, but was injured when his auto struck a light pole at Batavia December 22, 1938. His leg was broken in this mishap and the doctor never recovered from this injury.

Dr. Reed practiced in the horse-and-buggy dirt road days. He owned the first automobile in Agency.
