WILLIAM E. POPEJOY

William Franklin Popejoy, son of Mathias and Maria Popejoy, was born near Colfax, Ill, July 13, 1865, was one of seven children. He was married to Nellie Martin Feb. 9, 1882 and to this union were born three sons, Bernard M. of Pleasant Plain, Virgil M. of Deep River and Lester M. of Fairfield.

In 1913 Mr. Popejoy came to Iowa and had since then made his home in the Birmingham community until his death June 27, 1940. Mrs. Popejoy passed away in 1932. On Oct. 27, 1934 Mr. Popejoy was married to Mrs. Minnie Briles of Stockport.

He was converted as a young man and during the later years attended the Birmingham Methodist church. He was a good neighbor, always willing to help those in need and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Popejoy was in fair health until a few months ago when his health began to fail and about a week ago he became seriously ill.

He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, three son, seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Aribell Moyer of Lexington, Ill., one niece, Mrs. Alice Phillips of Kilbourne, whom Popejoys raised from infancy, besides a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Birmingham Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with Jay N. Waterman, pastor, in charge. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery. Floyd Williams, Merrill Countryman, Lester McKee and John Wilson sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” They were accompanied by Mrs. Dustin.
