DEATH OF MRS. GRACE BEELER

Mrs. Grace Beeler, wife of Joseph Beeler, of Lebanon died at the Ottumwa hopital[sic], Thursday, January 24th. The funeral was held from the Lebanon M.E. church Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.C. Bruvold, pastor of the Lebanon, Troy and Pulaski M.E. churches. Burial in the Lebanon cemetery near her old home. Mrs. Beeler had been a life long resident of Lebanon and was widely known in that vicinity. For 25 years, from 1900 until 1925, she was a valued correspondent for the Milton Herald from Lebanon. She leaves husband, one daughter, two sons and many relatives and friends. A full account of her life will be found below.

Grace Warner, daughter of John and Julia Warner was born near Lebanon, October 31, 1862, passed away January 24, 1929, at the St. Joseph hospital Ottumwa, Iowa, at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 24 days.

She was united in marriage to Lincoln Potter in 1879. One child, Julia Maude was born to this union.

On July 4, 1884, she was again united in marriage to Joseph Beeler. Three sons were born to this union. One, John Rex, dying in infancy.

Being raised in a Christian home she was a great Bible student. She united with the Presbyterian church, and was always ready to help any religious work whatever. Not only loyal to the church of her choice but her children’s church also. She was for years teacher of the young people’s class. She was a member of our Aid Society and also our chaplain. Her beautiful prayers will always echo in our minds.

While remodeling the M.E. church she remarked “We are building for our children and grandchildren.” She loved her home and was never better suited than when doing something for her loved ones, and her home community. As has often been said “She was the life of Lebanon.” She was always seeing the good in mankind, and was a great comforter in time of sorrow.

Mrs. Beeler had a wonderful personality and was greatly gifted in speech. She loved her Lord and Master and her life reflected her beautiful Christian character. “Grace” as we called her, will be greatly missed. Whenever the church doors were open she was there to help in anyway whatever.

Not only does her family mourn, but the entire community. She leaves to mourn their loss, her companion, Joe Beeler, one daughter, Mrs. Maude Judd, two sons Stanley and Hazen W., seven grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ed. Moore and Mrs. Frank Roush and numerous other friends and relatives.

The funeral was held from the Lebanon M.E. church Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.C. Bruvold, interment in the Lebanon cemetery.

The pallbearers were Joe Moore, Hollis Moore, John Fischer, Morris Roush, Julius Roush, and Earl Johnston. Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Muir, LaRue Wilson and Mrs. Julius Roush sang beautifully, appropriate songs, with Mrs. Paul Wilson at the piano. H.A. Burnett, of Keosauqua, had charge of the funeral arrangements. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.

The silvery oar has parted again
The ways of the mystical river;
And a mother stands upon the shore
Of the vast, the silent Forever:
Strange seems all earth, the gloom so deep.
Since that faithful mother fell asleep.
Then comfort find: death’s cruel sting
Is lost in the promise given
For those who strive to faithful be,
To join their loved in heaven.
Beyond all grief, and sin and pain,
Help us, O, God, that home to gain.

EXPRESSION OF THANKS
For the many kindnesses shown us by neighbors and other friends at the time or our wife and mother’s death, we thank you, and appreciate the beautiful floral offerings given as a tribute to her.
