DEATH TAKES C.R. CHISMAN

RESIDENT OF COUNTY SINCE 1850; SUBSCRIBER OF THE COURIER 54 YEARS.
-C.R. Chisman, almost 76 years old and a reader of The Courier ever since he was old enough to read, died at his home, 413 North Sheridan avenue, at 1:10 a.m., Sunday.
His funeral services will be held at 10:30 o’clock Tuesday morning at the Plymouth Congregational church. The Rev. Alva Huff of Barnard, Mo., will be in charge. Burial will be at Chisman cemetery.
Mr. Chisman was born in Dearborn county, Indiana, March 5, 1848. Two years later he came to Wapello county with his parents, and located on a farm eight miles west of Ottumwa. He lievd[sic] in that community until 1919 when he moved to his Sheridan avenue home. On April 17, 1870 he was married to Mary F. Frost. She and two children survive M.F. Chisman of this city and Mrs. Elmer Rose of route No. 2. He also has ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Two children, J.H. and Eunice, preceded their father in death: There is but one brother, G.H. chisman of Ottumwa, now living from a family of ten children. The deceased had been a member of the Christiansburg Methodist church for 58 years and a subscriber of The Courier for 54 years.

IN MEMORIAM
Calvin R. ChismanCalvin R. Chisman, son of J.M. and Mary Chisman, was born in Dearborn county, Ind., March 5, 1848. Two years later he, with his parents, immigrated to Iowa and located on a farm eight miles west of Ottumwa.
On April 17, 1870 he was married to Mary F. Frost and made a home on a part of his father’s old homestead. To this union was born two sons and two daughters, J.H. and Eunice having preceded him in death.
In early life he was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Christiansburg and remained a faithful member until his death. He served in various capacities of the church and Sunday school and acted as steward for many years. His door was always open to the ministers and many a one partook of his hospitalities.
In the autumn of 1919 he and his wife moved to 413 Sheridan avenue, where he resided until his death, which occurred early Sunday morning February 17, 1924, aged 75 years, eleven months, twelve days.
On October 27, 1922, he was stricken with paralysis and for sixteen months he was a helpless invalid. During his cheerfulness and faith in his Redeemer he never wavered and he would repeat verses of scripture and the psalms of David that were dear to his heart.
He is survived by his wife, two children, M.F. of this city, Mrs. Elmer Rose west of the city, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Alva Huff of Banard, Mo., at the Plymouth Congregational church, February 19, 1924, at 11 a.m. Interment in Chisman cemetery.
