HAZEL I. KISLING

Hazel I. Kisling, oldest daughter of William A. Kisling and Etta Armstrong Kisling, was born in Scotland county, Mo., Nov. 27, 1894. Her earthly life was spent in this community, Scotland county Mo., and Van Buren county, Iowa, with the exception of two years spent with her parents in Douglas, Ariz.

After completing her studies in the public schools she attended the State Normal school at Kirksville, Mo., and the State Teacher’s college at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Being well equipped, she taught several years in our public schools.

On June 24, 1915, she was united in marriage to Mr. George Cretcher, of Cantril, Iowa, and they at once went to housekeeping on the farm southeast of Cantril. This proved to be a very happy union each in love, sharing each others[sic]happiness and bearing each others[sic] sorrows.

Four years ago, a son, Harold Rex came to bless and add joy to the home.

When she was fifteen years of age she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Mt. Olive. After her marriage, she, together with her husband, united with the Methodist church at Upton where she remained a member until Tuesday morning Nov. 29, 1921, at 10:30 of the clock, when she was dismissed by transfer from the ranks of the Church Militant to the ranks of the Church Triumphant.

Mrs. Cretcher was a devot[sic] Christian woman and a firm believer in God’s plan for the redemption of mankind. Her’s[sic] was a life of service, and no task was too great for her, if she felt it would bring happiness to others. She inculcated and lived the principles of her Master, in going about doing good. Her labors were not in vain, but will bear fruitage in the lives of those, her friends, who will ever hold her precious life in sweet remembrance.

In her passing, she preceded her husband, little son, father mother and five sisters: Mildred I., Edna I., Naomi V., Iris I., and Charlott E. All were permitted to be by her bedside in her passing moments. Besides the above she leaves her grandmother, Mrs. Laura Kisling and her grandfather Mr. James Armstrong, and other more distant relatives, and a large circle of friends, who sympathize with the bereaved family.

Appropriate services were conducted at the Methodist church in Cantril, Thursday afternoon, and notwithstanding the heavy rain and bad roads, a large concourse of sorrowing friends paid their tribute of respect to the memory of this good woman. Iterment[sic] was made in the Cantril cemetery.
