OBITUARY

Susan Hancox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.P. Bell, was born September 23, 1874, aged 32 years 9 months and 24 days, died July 17 1907.

The funeral services were held at her parents[sic] home, conducted by her pastor Rev. O.E. Ticknor assisted by Rev. McClure, the text being, “Her sun has gone down while it is yet day.” The choir sang two hymns suggested by herself, the first, “Shall we gather at the river’ to be sung for her friends, the second, to be sung as her last message to the world, “Prepare to meet thy God.”

She made a profession of her faith in Jesus Christ and his atonement, when quite young and united with the Presbyterian church at Lebanon, which profession and faith were reaffirmed many times on her death bed, her husband declaring that he didn’t think any one had ever lived a purer life than she had; being conscious to the last moments she never expressed any doubts as to her future, praying much that her Heavenly Father would take her home, only being anxious that her two children, Vera and Rex might have Christian training, saying that if she had been Pharisaical in thinking she might have given them a better Christian education than anyone else she hoped God would forgive…[NOTE: The rest of the obituary is cut off.]
