MRS. MILDRED BURKETT

Mrs. Mildred Burkett, 65, Keosauqua, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 1977 at Davis County Hospital, Bloomfield.

She was born April 22, 1912, at Olds, the daughter of Clark and Amelia Nichalaus Zickefoose. She married Fred Burkett December 31, 1932, at Macomb, Illinois.

She taught in rural schools of Henry and Van Buren counties, was a member of Keosauqua Christian Church and CWF, was active as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and was a former president of the Keosauqua PTA.

Surviving: The husband; daughter, Mrs. Annette Wade, Opellousas, Louisiana; six sons, Delma, Austin, Texas, Larry, Fort Dodge, Jim, Everett, Washington, Doyl, Seattle, Washington, Mike, Moscow, Idaho and Lyle, Muscatine; 12 grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Wanda Trueblood, Salem, Mrs. Emmelyn Poffinbarger, Davenport, Mrs. Opal Trueblood, Seaside, Oregon, Mrs. Wilma Barton, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Mrs. Jeannette Schlatter, Mt. Pleasant; brother, Orval Zickefoose, Camdenton, Missouri.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 5, 1977 at the Keosauqua Christian church with the Rev. Charles Fudensky officiating. Burial was in Fellows Cemetery. Pedrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MILDRED M. BURKETT

Mildred M. Burkett, daughter of Clark and Amelia Nichalaus Zickefoose, was born April 22, 1012 (err: 1912), at Olds, Iowa and departed this life Wednesday August 3, 1977, at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield after an extended illness. As a girl she moved with her family to the Milton community. She graduated from Milton High School in 1929, attended Iowa Wesleyan College at Mt. Pleasant, and taught in Van Buren and Henry County rural schools. On December 31, 1932, she married Fred Burkett at Macomb, Illinois. Their married life has been spent farming in the Keosauqua area.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her widower, a daughter, Mrs. Annette Wade, Opellousas, Louisiana; six sons, Delmar, Austin, Texas; Larry, Fort Dodge; Jim, Everett, Washington; Doyl, Seattle, Washington; Mike, Moscow, Idaho; and Lyle, Muscatine; and twelve grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Wanda Trueblood, Salem; Mrs. Emmelyn Poffinbarger, Davenport; Mrs. Opal Trueblood, Seaside, Oregon; Mrs. Wilma Barton, Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Mrs. Jeanette Schlatter, Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Orval Zickefoose, Camdenton, Missouri, other relatives and many friends.

Mildred was an active member of the Keosauqua Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship, for many years taught Sunday school and Bible School, and had served as president of the Keosauqua Parent-Teachers' Association. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, who each day endeavored to practice her Christian faith.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 5, 1977, at 2 p.m. at the Keosauqua Christian Church, with the Rev. Charles Fudenski, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Gloria Weirbach was the organist. Mildred and Fred's sons served as pallbearers. Interment was in Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
