WILLIAM CAIN SPICER

Bloomfield suffered the loss of one of their oldest and much respected residents Thursday, June 2, just after noon, when life’s battle marked its close for William Cain Spicer, aged 85 years, 1 month and 9 days. Mr. Spicer was born in Carroll county, Kentucky, the son of Cadwalader and Elizabeth Tandy Spicer. August 20, 1868 he was united in marriage to Amanda M. Cox who preceded him in death some years ago. They were the parents of ten children, three of whom died at infancy, Cora E. at the age of 15 years and Carmi N., November 16, 1924. Those who survive are: Riley E. of Tuxford, Sask.; Mary E. Kruse of Moose Jaw, Sask.; Florence E. Harris of Bloomfield, Iowa; Stella Beavers of New London, Iowa and Claude W. of Dodsland, Sask. Two brothers also survive, Samuel Spicer of Hutchison, Kans. and James Spicer of Benton Iowa and 17 grandchildren. Mr. Spicer was a member of the Bloomfield Chrichian[sic] church, having united with body some years ago. A good christian man and a splendid neighbor is the sentiment of those who knew him best. Mr. Spicer held membership in both the Masonic and the I. O. O. F. lodges of Troy.

The funeral was held from the home Sunday at 1:00, Chas. S. Macy, pastor of the Christian church was in charge of the service. A mixed quartette composed of Mrs. T. T. Talbott, Mr. Philip Schmitz, Mrs. Claude Swift and Clarence Blankenship sang, Mrs. Blankenship playing the accompaniment. Interment was made in Troy cemetery.

The out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral of W. C. Spicer are as follows: A. T. Tandy and A. H. Tandy of Oskaloosa, Iowa; J. H. Spicer of Mt. Ayres[sic], Ia.; R. E. Spicer, Tuxford, Sask. Canada, Mrs. Stella Beavers, New London, Iowa.; V. N. Cassady, Milton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Buckles and famil, Keosauqua; Mr. and Mrs. Neri Hoskin, Sr. and son Leslie, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hoskin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hoskin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Neri Hoskin, Jr. and Mrs. Jasper Hoskin of Cantril.
