Dr. Fred Graber, Physician For 63 Years, Succumbs

STOCKPORT, Ia. - Dr. Fred J. Graber, 86, Stockport physician for 63 years, died at 3:00 a.m. today at the Jefferson county hospital in Fairfield. He had been a patient there since Nov. 8.

Last rites will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home in Fairfield in charge of the Rev. H.C. Irvine of Birmingham. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Dr. Graber, a graduate of Rush Medical College in Keokuk, first opened his office here in 1891. Although semi-retirement for several years, he continued to practice until his recent illness.

Dr. Graber was born in Jefferson county Sept. 24, 1868, the son of Jacob and Mary Heckethorne Graber. He was married to Alice M. Miller Oct. 15, 1892 at Birmingham. She died Sept. 18, 1937. On Sept. 2, 1939, he married Gladys Hiatt who preceded him in death July 12, 1954.

Dr. Graber served as an army medical officer during World War I.

He is survived by one son, Dr. Harold E. Graber, Mr. Holly Springs, Pa.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The following sisters and brothers also survivie: Mrs. George M. BAll and Mrs. Lilly Keller, both of Fairfield; Olive Graber, Burlington; Mrs. Florence Thompson, Fredericksburg; Mrs. J.C. Weirth, Algona, Wash., and J.A. Graber, Wapato, Wash.

One son, Dr. Vern Graber, one brother and one sister, preceded him in death.
