Elizabeth Johnston was born in Dearborn county, Indiana, July 5, 1827. she was married to Daniel L. Wilson at her home near Aurore, Indiana, January 23, 1845. Four years later she, with her husband and two children, moved to Van Buren county, Iowa, arriving on Indian Prairie, October 8, 1849, passing the winter in what is now the village of Lebanon. The name Lebanon was chosen by grandfather Bingaman, Elizabeth and Daniel Wilson, at the home of the latter sometime in the winter of 1849. In the fall she and her husband settled farm south of Lebanon where they ever after made their home. Six children – three sons and three daughters – were born to them, all of whom were living and present at her taking off, except Sarah Frances, the oldest child who died in 1880. Mrs. Elizabeth Johnston Wilson was summoned to the better world, Sept. 4, 1897, being 70 years, 1 month and 29 days of age. She was next to the youngest of a family of ten children, of whom Mrs. Sarah Bryan, of Galesburg, Ill., now in her 80th year, is the only living member. Mrs. Wilson was a truly good woman, a model wife, the idol of her children, a neighbor who was an ever present help in time of need. In her twelfth year she united with the M. E. church, and was always a working member when her health permitted. She had been an invalid for some years, but bore her affliction without complaint. The funeral was held at the old home Monday Sept. 9, Rev. D. G. Abbott preaching the funeral sermon. The remains were laid to rest in the Lebanon cemetery, a large concourse of relatives and friends being present, quite a number from a distance.---Keosauqua Republican.
